Regular suspension maintenance is key to ensuring your vehicle is safe for you and for other road users.

Modern suspensions don’t require very much maintenance but it is important to conduct regular checks – not only will this save you money in the long run but it will help keep your vehicle roadworthy and safe to drive.

Firstly, ensure that your tyres are always well inflated.  We advise checking this at least every 1,000 to 3,000 miles you drive.  Some people prefer to check this every time they fill up.  Under-inflation can cost you more in fuel costs, increase wear on tyres and in some circumstances make a vehicle unsafe to drive.

If your tyres need to be rotated, then it’s best to do this every 10,000 miles.  Your vehicle’s manual will tell you if you need to do this.

You should also check your tyre tread depth regularly and you can do this when checking their pressure.

Wheel alignment can only really be properly done in a garage and should include all four tyres.  This is best done every 30,000 miles or two years (whichever is sooner).  If you regularly drive on rough or poorly maintained roads, it’s best to have this done every 15,000 miles.  Also, if you replace your tyres then a full wheel alignment should be done at the same time.

Depending on usage, your vehicle should receive a professional suspension maintenance check every 15,000 – 30,000 miles it drives.

When you replace the oil, it’s also a good idea to check power steering fluid levels.
